KICHADI (किचडी) yes this what they call it! This is served in Chennai hotels! Its a variation of the regular Upma!
Ingredients
Rawa 1 cup
Semia i.e. vermicelli 1 cup
Chana dal 2 tsp
Urad dal 3 tsp
Mustard seeds 1tsp
Whole red chillies 2
Hing 1/4 tsp
Peanuts or cashew nuts 1 tsp
Oil 3 tbsp
Chopped green chillies 3
Chopped ginger 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves 6
Chopped coriander leaves
Green peas 3 tbsp
Water 5 to 6 cups
Lemon juice 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder 1/8 tsp
Salt to taste

 

Method–

Dry roast the rawa .
Dry roast the vermicelli also (if it is already roasted then no need to roast)
Boil the water along with green peas
Heat oil a pan.
Add the dals, mustard seeds,red chillies,hing.
Add the peanuts.
If you want to add onions add at this stage.
Saute the onions.
Add turmeric powder.
Now add the roasted rawa and vermicelli.
Add salt.
Pour the boiling water.
Allow it to cook .
Add the lemon juice.
Mix well.
Garnish with coriander leaves.
Serve hot with chutney.
Normally peas are not added in hotels.
I use it make colourful , tasty and add some nutritive value!
