Recipe for international year of millets!
Karnataka’s special Akki (rice) rotti made with jowar flour!
Ingredients–
Jowar flour 2 cups
Green chillies 4
Curry leaves 8
Coriander leaves 4 tsp
Grated fresh coconut 1/3 cup
Hing 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Moong dal 1 tbsp (optional)
Oil to cook
Method–
Heat 1&1/2 cups of water in a pan.
Add hing and salt to it.
Crush the green chillies and curry leaves
Chop the coriander leaves fine.
When it starts boiling add washed moong dal.
Add grated coconut.
Add the crushed green chillies and curry leaves
Mix and add chopped coriander leaves.
Add jowar flour little by little to the boiling water.
Mix well with a whisk .
Switch off the flame.
Keep it covered.
When it is slightly hot knead well with your palms.
Divide into 10 to 12 parts.
Make round balls.
Place on a greased plastic sheet.
Flatten with hand
Cover with another greased sheet.
Roll into a chapati with rolling pin or flatten with fingers.
Cook on tawa with oil on medium heat.
When it becomes slightly dry flip it and apply some oil. when brown spots appear flip it and apply oil. Cook both sides and serve hot with tomato chutney or any chutney of your choice.
