HAYAGREEVA is a sweet dish made in UDUPI !This is offered to the Lord in Sri Vadi raja muth ,and also believed to be one of the favorites of MATAJI and offered to HER during navratri especially on the second day!It is made of chanadal which is a good source of protein and jaggery which is full of iron! Now let us se the recipe!


Ingredients–


Chanadal 1 cup washed and soaked in water for 1 hour
Grated jaggery 3/4cup
Grated coconut fresh or dry 1/4 cup
Ghee 1tbsp
Cashewnuts 8
Coconut cut into slices 10
Cardamom powder1/4 tsp

 

Method–


Cook the dal in a pressure cooker. Let the dal be whole not mushy. Remove the water if any. This water can be used in ‘rasam’,’osaman’ or any soup. Heat ghee in a kadhai fry the nuts and coconut pie. Remove them and keep aside. Add jagger to the remaining ghee. When it starts melting add grated coconut and dal.simmer for 5 minutes. Add cardamom powder, and half of the fried nuts and coconut pieces. Mix well and transfer into the serving bowl. Decorate with remaining nuts and coconut pieces!
