BISIBELE BHAAT With KODO MILLETS By Pramila Goswami

BISIBELE BHAAT is karnataka’s ‘ most famous recipe. No function is complete without this in karnataka. Normally it is served with papad or chips and onion raita!Actually this is prepared with rice and tuar dal.To make the healthy version of this karnataka special I replace rice with KODO MILLETS without any other changes!
Recipe
Ingredients:
KODO millets 1/2 cup
Tuar dal 1/2 cup
Turmeric powder 1/4tsp
Tamarind lemon size
Mixed veggies like beans,carrot,potato,green peas,red pumpkin etc
Mustard seeds 1tsp
Fenugreek seeds 1/4 tsp
Dry red chilly 1
Peanuts 2tsp
Curry leaves 12
Hing 1/4 tsp
Oil 2tsp
Bisi bele bhaat masala powder 3tbsp
Dry coconut grated 2tbsp
Jaggery 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Method–
Soak tamarind in 1/2 cup water.
Wash kodo MILLETS and dal.
Add 3 cups of water.
Soak for 30 mins atleast
Take it in a cooker.
Add salt and turmeric powder.
Cook on medium flame for 8 to 10 mins till it is soft like khichdi.
Mash it well.
Extract tamarind juice.
Heat oil in a pan.
Add mustard seeds, methi seeds,red chilly.
Add the peanuts,hing,and curry leaves.
Saute for a minute.
Add all the diced veggies, curry leaves you can add tomatoes if you like,saute for 2 mins.
Add water and cook the vegetables are half cooked.
Add tamarind juice.when it starts boiling add the bisi bele bhaat masala ,jaggery and the cooked dal and millets(or rice),dry coconut
Allow them to get blended well.
Cook till veggies are soft.
Consistency should be semi solid.
Serve hot .
