MOHANTHAL

MOHANTHAL is a gujarati traditional sweet dish! No function is complete without this! Made with besan I.e. gram flour.some add khoa to get the texture but I am giving the recipe without khoa, so that it can be made anytime with the simple ingredients available at home!

Serves 4 to 6

 

Ingredients:

 

Gram flour 1.5 cup

Ghee 1/2 cup

Milk 1/3cup

Sugar 2cups

Water 1/2 cup

Cardamom pd 1/2 tsp

Nutmeg pd  1 pinch

Saffron a few strands soaked in 2 tsp of warm milk

Almonds and pistachios

 

Method

 

Sieve gramflour. Add 2 tbsp melted ghee mix lightly. Sprinkle 1tbsp milk and rub using both the hands.take in a bowl and press it.keep covered for 10 mins. Again rub well.sieve  with a strainer to get crumbly rawa like texture. Heat ghee in a kadai  and fry the gramflour on low flame till golden brown. Start adding milk little by little keep stirring.when all the milk is absorbed  remove from fire..it may take 15 mins appr.meanwhile take sugar in another pan add half cup water and boil. Add saffron soaked in milk and make syrup of one string consistency. Add card mom and nutmeg powder. Add the gramflour mixture. Mix well with a spatula till cools down. Pour into a greased tray .sprinkle the chopped nuts. When set cut into pieces and serve.

P.s nuts and flavoring can be adjusted to your choice!
